Fex Valley, Switzerland
Val Fex or Fex Valley in Switzerland – look around: snow-covered rocks, a wide valley covered in snow, huts built in the 1500s, free-roaming goats. Instead of roads you see cross-country skiing and hiking trails, instead of cars horse-drawn carriages. This is the picturesque Val Fex. It is also called the most beautiful valley in Oberengadin. It is one of the highest all year round inhabited valleys in Switzerland. Starting from Sils Maria (1809 m above sea level) at the end of the valley, you will find the small settlements of Vaüglia, Platta, Crasta (1951 m), Vals and Curtins (1973 m), most of which consist of only a few traditionally built houses.
Since 1954, the entire valley has been under strict protection, and only the few residents are allowed to enter the valley by car. Tourists can use horse-drawn carriages or, in winter, horse-drawn sleighs. Alternatively, one can explore the valley hiking or on skis.
There are only a few hotels and cottages. Alternatively, one can stay in Engagin in Sils, which is within walking distance. However, staying in Val Fex also means rest, relaxation and escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life in close proximity to nature.
